Kitchen Accessories

We finally have it. Due to popular request we now have a large range of Kitchen accessories in stock including aprons and pot holders. We have been facing huge demand for the Pavlova apron and tea towel. Closely followed by the men wanting the Steam Locomotives of New Zealand Tea Towel. We hope that you find something in here for that someone who deserves a little extra. The below tea towel has the original genuine recipe that was created in 1926. The Pavlova is a delicious meringue pudding or desert that was created in New Zealand in 1926. The very first Pavlova was originally created by a Wellington hotel chef who made it for the famous Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova who visited New Zealand on her world tour. Culinary historians identify the recipe in E. Futter 1926 "Home Cookery for New Zealand" as the first known Pavlova. The actual Pavlova recipe is printed at the bottom of this page.

Pavlova Recipe

First preheat your oven to 150c. Beat the egg whites and salt until stiff peak form. Gradually add the castor sugar beating all the time. It is most important to ensure that all sugar is completely dissolved. You should now have a wonderful thick white glop! Lightly fold the cornstarch, vinegar and essence into the mix. Turn the mixture out into the centre of a round baking tray (don't forget the baking paper) and shape into a circle, but don't let it touch the side. Turn the oven down to 140c and bake for 15 minutes, then turn the oven down to 120c and bake for a further 1 1/4 hours. Let it cool in the oven (I make them in the evening and let them sit overnight). Top with fresh whipped cream, succulent strawberries and juicy Kiwifruit. Delicious!
